MOVED!

MOVED! - living roomMOVED! - balcony
Yeah, I've moved and my place is finally is starting to feel like home! Most of the boxes are unpacked, still trying to figure out what's the best way to store everything. Some creative DIY really helps a lot. Banana boxes fit perfect as bookshelves. And there are more DIY projects to come: I still need curtains and a couch for instance.

Meanwhile I will also start my textile projects again, they're sitting and waiting in the corner of my room.
I didn't expect unpacking stuff after moving would take so much time, but I'm really pleased now with the result!

BUSY BUSY

Green!

Lots of things have been keeping me busy lately and making it hard to start writing a weekly post again about my daily adventures since coming back from my Asia trip. Although it has been a couple of months now that I started working after graduation, I still have to find my way around in having a bit of an organized weekly rhythm, but maybe that will never happen and I have to accept that that’s just me!

Next to a big project at work I’ll be busy moving out upcoming weeks. After five years living in a student house (good memories!) it is time for me to move to a somewhat bigger space with more privacy. Happily I will still have the  company of two room mates at my new house and fortunately my old house is closeby, so I can still easily visit my lovely old roomies!

I opened the shop again, for now I will only sell film-slide necklaces because of the moving out. Once I have fully moved, and visited all the festivals I want to see this summer I will supply the shop with more wannahaves!
Last weekend I went to a new festival called ’Down The Rabbit Hole’ nearby Nijmegen. Besides live music there were many other possibilities like watching a movie, building your own raft and sail on the lake or BBQing your own meal. A must see if you’re here next June 2015 if you ask me!

The pictures above show one of my trips by bike (I went to see a little feel good market with my family in Nijmegen) and the greens on my balcony (it’s growing wildly!).

PORTFOLIO

Lately I have been working on my portfolio since it really needs an update! Although I actually was planning on creating shirts from the fabric I showed you in my last post, I decided to first finish the portfolio. Somehow this happens every time; I start a new project but then all of a sudden I am reminded by one of the other projects waiting to be finished and decide to switch. Eventually this results in many unfinished projects, sometimes it is overwhelmingly annoying but then again I am happy to never be bored!

While working on the portfolio I listened to these CDs (Unknown Mortal Orchestra - II and Patrick Watson - Wooden Arms) that I bought the other day. It’s a bit old-fashioned, but I still like to buy CDs, it gives a nice feeling to hold the CD in my hands and to browse through the little booklet that comes with it. Moreover I like to have a physical library of the music that I love.

GOOD NEWS

Over the past couple of months I’ve been a bit disorganized in placing my adventures and thoughts on this blog. Ever since graduating my Masters in Industrial Design I’ve had a chaotic experience in finding a job whilst continuing the other things in daily life. I worked at a little shop for a couple of weeks during summer after which I got a temporary job at a design agency. This asked some flexibility from me and that resulted in not having my stuff for Etsy, this blog and some other things organized.

But, I can happily say that from now on I will be working for four days a week at the design agency, which is amazing! Moreover this will give me some structure and time to work on the blog and Etsy. So starting from now I will try to weekly post something about my daily life or the shop. And hopefully will be able to add some new products to my shop. Just started on a new project as you can see.

PROJECT CONTINUES | WINTER JACKET

Since winter still didn't commence around here in the Netherlands I got some extra time to finish my winter jacket. I've been working on it in my spare time whilst drinking a good cup of jasmin tea. I added an extra pocket and decided the jacket can be worn inside-out as well. The inside has such a lovely pattern.

It's almost finished now, you can already wear it. But I'm not totally satisfied with the result, so I will tweak it somewhat in the upcoming days before winter really starts.

PROJECT | WINTER JACKET

Although summer is still around us I continued making my new jacket for upcoming winter. I started a while ago but unfortunately the graduation project took all of my time so I had to leave this aside. As you can see the inner part is starting to build up. Tomorrow I will look for some strings and buttons at the weekly textiles market that I can use to shape the jacket.

Hope you’ve had a nice weekend!

PATCHWORK-PROJECT

collecting pieces | organizing the plain colours | fill with print pieces | sew | first rows of patchwork

Over the past days I continued my patchwork-project. A while ago I already cut some old clothes and other textiles into square pieces. Now I brought the pieces together into a nice composition and started sewing them together.

NEW PROJECT | WINTER JACKET

My old handmade winter jacket.

This is my old winter jacket. I made it by hand a couple of years ago. It was the first piece of clothing I ever made. Since I did not know how to make a jacket I based the pattern-making on one of my favorite jackets (which unfortunately was totally worn out). It took me a long time to finish it, but in the end I was happy with the result.

Fabrics for new winter jacket.

Right now, 3 years later, I have decided to make a new winter jacket (for next year's winter). Yesterday morning I went to the market to shop for fabrics, I found a beautiful woolen black-grey textile which will be perfect for the jacket. I still had the woolen textile with the Nordic print, which I bought last October. Furthermore I will use a black smooth textile for the lining.
The jacket will be based on a pattern of BURDA that I ordered online, it has a poncho-shape. Now I have to wait for the pattern to arrive. When there's any progress I will let you know!

RAINY SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Rainy Sunday afternoon.

Starting a new Sleeve Design.

Holland knows a lot of rainy Sunday afternoons, just like this Sunday. So what better to do than to stay in and to create a new sleeve design! The sleeve will soon be finished and added to my shop. Hope you've had a good weekend as well.
